JPIC 2008 - World Youth Day 2008
It seems a short time ago we were following the pilgrims to Germany for the World Youth Day 2005 and now we are anticipating the upcoming WYD 2008. A daily diary was sent telling about the activities and celebration that our Sisters and young people enjoyed while participating in WYD 2005. The account can be found on the congregational web page. It was on August 21, 2005 that Pope Benedict XVI invited the youth of the world to the 23rd World Youth Day to be held in Sydney, Australia July 15 – 20, 2008.
The theme of WYD 2008 will be “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses." Act 1:8. WYD is the Catholic Church’s week of events for youth and with youth. It gathers thousands of young people from around the world to celebrate and learn about the Catholic faith and to build bridges of friendship and hope between continents, peoples and cultures. An estimated 500,000 participants are expected to attend at least one event during the World Youth Day. Let us be united in prayer for all the young people who will be participating in this special event. Respectfully submitted, © Franciscan Sisters of the Poor |
