Canticle of an Elder Franciscan

by Sister Marcia Dahlinghaus, SFP

  I forget

Oh yes,

remembering now

  Just want to say,

before my mind

no longer

  returns

at will

It seems harder

every day

  Just want to say

before I go

and

can no longer

find the cue

that

brings my wanderings

home

  When I wander

I hope

  I am tender

in my confusion

amusing

in my scatteredness

  Because I love you

brothers and sisters

  dear

and . . .

  I forget now . . .

Oh . . . yes . . .

  Just want to say

‘cause I love you

brother

sister

and . . .

  Oh . . .

forget

  Love you . . .

dear . . .

  Yes

  now

       I

brother

sister

love . . . .
