Dear Friends,

e are happy to announce that on August 25, 2009 under the auspices of St. Louis, Patron Saint of the Third Order, the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor will begin a new healing mission to the Philippines in Dumaguete City. Sisters Maria Atorino, Cristina Di Nocco and Armida Sison will be forming a community. They will minister to the people of God, especially to poor and suffering children.

Left to Right: Sister Maria Atorino (sfp.maria@gmail.com), Sister Armida Sison (mids@verizon.net), Sister Cristina Di Nocco (sfp.cristina@gmail.com)

We ask for your prayers and support! We invite our dear friends and collaborators to pray along with our Sisters and Associates in the spirit of the words of our own Mother Frances:

Good and Gracious God, we ask that your blessing be upon us as a Congregation and on our pioneer Sisters who venture forth to serve the people of Dumaguete City in the Philippines.

“Go, dear Sisters, go with the blessing of God. We know many are waiting for your help. Take care of the poor and needy, nurse the sick, shelter the unfortunate-- proclaim the good news of Christ among them-- that is our vocation, that is how we heal the wounds of Christ. Let us always live faithful to our ideals. May you live as the poor, among the poor of Christ. May you preserve the spirit of prayer, which alone gives value to all our labors and endeavors. Go, keep brave and strong, and always have firm confidence in God. Go, then, and even though distance separates us, we will support you in our prayer and love; we are thankful to God for the gift of your lives and your willingness to leave everything.”

May God who has begun a good work in you, bless it to completion. Amen.

United in Jesus, St. Francis and Blessed Frances Schervier,
Sister Tiziana Merletti, sfp
Congregational Minister and Council
